Betfair Poker - Review (Print this article)

Betfair Poker The UK’s largest betting website now brings you their online multi-player poker room, with all the usual favourites you’ve come to expect, Texas hold ‘em, Omaha, Omaha Hi-Lo and many more. One of the advantages of using Betfair poker is decreased commission when using their betting site. Betfair Poker is not available to US residents.

Software: Betfair Poker is a fairly new offering that launched in mid 2004 using Cryptologic’s software, and has been growing at a rapid rate ever since. Being a British poker room, you will find that the games are busier in early evening GMT, compared to many of the larger US poker rooms, so for UK poker players this room has definite attractions. Cryptologic have provided the first software to allow you to play in your choice of currency, either pounds, euros or dollars, so you never need to convert how much you are spending at the poker table back into your own currency. The pace of play is fairly slow, but the software is clean and sharp, and fairly user friendly, with a convertible chat box that can show playing statistics or notes on other poker players at the touch of a button.  5/10

Support: Email and telephone support are much better here than on other Cryptologic software poker rooms, due to the facility being dealt with in house, and queries usually dealt with quickly and efficiently by experienced poker knowledgeable personnel. The Betfair Poker website also features a forum where you can vent your spleen about the software, games, other players or just the world in general 7/10

Banking: Betfair Poker accept all the major credit and debit cards, Moneybookers, Western union and Bank Transfers. However there is no Neteller which is a glaring omission in online poker land today which is one of the few weak points to Betfair Poker, and it must be said a very major one. and have a reputation for prompt no quibble payouts even in their casino site which is rare online. 5/10

Bonuses: Betfair Poker’s only bonus is reduced commission on your betting account, if you look a punt then this is a major benefit. Where Betfair really score is in the overlay on their guaranteed tournaments, which can give a massive bonus in relation to the amount actually paid into the pot by the participating poker players. 5/10

Game Availability: Betfair Poker have a fairly large player base that suits the UK players best as it tends to be busy from 6pm onwards daily, but tails off significantly after midnight. There is a large selection of games at lower limits, and No Limit games are also getting busier as the network expands. Tournaments are relatively small with a maximum registration of 500, so you wont need to spend the whole day to reach that elusive final table. 6/10

Game Toughness: Betfair Poker is developing a reputation for some tough games at lower limits, conversely on the No Limit tables, the games are often looser with more players seeing the flop. The standard of the Omaha and Seven Card Stud are also quite poor, so if you play anything but Limit Poker then this may be the site for you. 7/10

Total 35/60 (Print this article)
