BoDog Poker - Review (Print this article)

BoDog Poker made their entry to online poker in late 2004, backed by their online sportsbook that has been based in Costa Rica since its inception in 1995, BoDog is one of the most respected and trusted online gaming organisations in the world.

Software: BoDog chose Micropower to provide its multi-player poker software, but opted out of the existing Power Network to go it alone. And a successful choice that has turned out to be, with action far outstripping that of the network version, and with a few minor tweaks to the code, the BoDog offering seems far better than the original version found elsewhere. You will also find this to be about the quickest game play on the market today, in fact decision time is so fast, that multi-tabling is pretty hard here, and those who like to play four or more poker tables may have to cut back at BoDog. 7/10

Support: Poker support is by email or telephone only, but there is no freephone number from the UK, so effectively you are down to purely email. Response is reasonable however, and answers tend to be fairly accurate first time around. 5/10

Banking: Bodog accepts Neteller, credit cards, Instant Cheques and Bank Drafts. Payouts are extremely quick with no fuss. 5/10

Bonuses: There is permanent 10% bonus whether that is for first time, or subsequent deposits. Care must be exercised however as any withdrawal before you have cleared this will result in loss of bonus. This is easy to do as the bonus is shown in your balance immediately so it looks as if you already have it in your account. It is also very slow to earn, but at least you can always have a bonus earning while you play. 5/10

Game Availability: BoDog is growing, and has done amazingly well from a standing start, and coming relatively late to online poker. As seems to be the trend with new online poker rooms, especially when tied to sportsbooks, the players prefer no limit, and the majority of games can be found in this variation. The majority of games are also on Texas Hold ‘Em, if it’s Omaha or Seven Card Stud, there are better places to play. Tournaments are small and few and far between. 5/10

Game Toughness: When BoDog first opened for business, they had some of the loosest games ever on their No Limit tables, in all probability, those players have been well and truly gobbled by the BoDog sharks as they are undeniably tougher, however that is only relative, and the games are still pretty juicy and definitely worth a try, especially for No Limit fans. 8/10

Total 35/60 (Print this article)
