Software: Cake Poker is a stand alone site using proprietary software developed by Cyberluck, that appears to have been based around the popular Party Poker look. It’s fair to say that this is much better than the poker room they imitate, with far clearer and less cheesy graphics. There are still some minor bugs, although these seem to be getting ironed out in order. Particularly annoying is the buy-in count in their re-buy tournaments which fails to update properly 9 times out of ten, and their add-ons fail to update almost 100% of the time. Get these issues fixed and Cake is one of the best you’ll see, not quite up to Poker Stars – you can’t beat personalisation – but among rooms that feel that a people image is the way to go, this is the best. 8
Support: Only email support is available here, which is disappointing, however it has to be said that these guys can equal speed of response to Poker Stars and Paradise, those other notorious email only merchants. It is obvious however that if the question is poker specific as opposed to account related that the answers can vary from dodgy to completely missing the point, and hence lose a couple of marks for that. 6
Banking: Cake Poker accepts Neteller, Moneybookers, Epassporte, Visa & Mastercard provide a healthy range of options for the UK player, but no debit card availability as yet is an issue. Still, bear in mind they take US play, like Muller Lite, you have to take some pain to get the pleasure! 7
Bonuses: Cake Poker have a $500 Welcome Bonus, which in this day and age is right up with the best. There are also frequent reload bonuses, usually for $100 a time. There is also a unique Gold Card scheme/Gold Card Race, where you earn cards during ring game play randomly. Obviously the more you play, the more cards you can earn. There is $500 for the race winner every week, and the top 10 all get a payout shared between them. You can’t count on it, but it’s a nice little extra, and being a small site means you’ve got a genuine chance of winning it! 8
Game Availability: Cake Poker surprisingly has a decent range of games. It seems that although peak traffic isn’t that high, coming in just below the likes of the Cryptologic network, the fact they still take US play, plus a decent penetration in the former Soviet block, and of course a smattering of Europeans, means that there is always a game available, even up as high as $25/$50 No Limit 7
Game Toughness: Cake Poker has some very weak players at all levels, possibly the weakest site online as of September 2007. What is even more amazing that amongst a world full of donkament players, Cake Poker has without doubt the worst tournament players to be found online today. Get yourself involved if you’re not a cash game player, or even if you are, you won’t find it easier anywhere! 10
