1995 World Series of Poker Championship winner, and now author of Harrington on Hold 'Em – Expert Strategy for No Limit Hold’Em Tournaments, Dan Harrington is undoubtedly one of the best No Limit Hold’em tournament players in the world today.
Dan began playing professionally in 1982. His “Action Dan” nickname is an ironic reference to his solid style of play, but solid doesn’t mean unsuccessful, as Dan has won many major No Limit Hold’em Tournaments.

These include the aforementioned World Series in 1995, along with The European Poker Championships in the same year and a second World Series of Poker bracelet in 1995 in the $2500 buy-in No Limit Hold’em event.
Dan was originally a chess player, and was in fact one of the strongest players in the New England area, and won the 1972 Massachusetts Chess Championship. He moved on to Backgammon in 1976, again becoming highly proficient, winning the World Cup of Backgammon in 1981.

His venture into the World series of Poker, began in 1987, where he finished sixth, followed by his win in 1995, and back to back final tables in 2003 and 2004 where he finished third and fourth respectively, a quite incredible achievement with the size of the fields signing up for today’s World Series events. With over 6000 expected for the 2005 event, can Dan make it a remarkable hattrick, the odds are massively against but his record is hard to beat so who knows. As an interesting side note, Dan has a very sporting family, with top Irish Golfer Padraig Harrington, and Detroit Lions Quarterback Joey Harrington both being cousins of his.
