Location & Accessibility (max 3/5)

Slightly off centre strip, but directly across from New York New York, and MGM Grande, it’s a bit of an up and down and roundabout to get there. This is the casino of choice for those doing Vegas on a budget, and the casino generally shows it despite it’s reasonable location.

Card Room & Casino Ambiance (2/5)

Excalibur is certainly different with it’s bright orange and blue topped turrets in what Vegas thinks is a nod towards Camelot and the knights of the round table. But really it’s just tacky, and not even close to the likes of Venetian, New York New York or Paris in their attempts to replicate a theme. Inside the casino is definitely one of the more bland affairs in Vegas, and while the card room is right at the back, it’s nothing special, even the tables seem cheap with some of the worst felt you’ll ever try to slide cards across.

Card Room Staff (8/10)

As ever in Vegas, well trained and professional dealers one and all, but unfortunately the games are slowed by the lack of card shufflers, allied to the aforementioned cheap felt, it just felt, perhaps unfairly, that the standard wasn’t as good as elsewhere.

Waiting Staff (3/5)

A fast efficient service, but as there were few tables running then it should have been, but it would be nice if they cracked a smile now and again.

Level of Play (3/10) [10 being good]

Surprisingly, or perhaps not seeing as it’s a bit harder to get to than most, the standard was a bit better than the Vegas norm, admittedly that’s not saying too much, but still there were 3 or 4 solid players per table, making the pots more like an online game than a typical live game massive overbet style. Still money to be made, but there’s better games to be had elsewhere, not really many good reasons to play your poker here.

Tournament Selection (0/10)

No tournaments at this time.

Cash Game Selection (2/5)

Simply not enough games running, and only $1/$2NL available on my visit, for higher level players there’s simply nothing.

Total: 21/50

Of all the Vegas Poker Rooms that we’ve visited and played at, Excalibur comes bottom, there are worse players to be had, and much better surroundings, and not having automatic shufflers in this day and age is inexcusable, you simply have to offer the lot and Excalibur doesn’t. We recommend you give this one a miss.
