Location & Accessibility (max 5/5)
Prime location in the centre of the strip, opposite the Flamingo, and between Bellagio and Treasure Island. Caesars is in one of the best spots in town, and certainly has one of the most impressive facades.
Card Room & Casino Ambiance (3/5)
The casino manages to maintain a small feel (for Vegas anyway), with it’s many Roman columns and dividing walls. The poker room however is open plan, although enclosed in an entirely separate room at the back end of the casino by the sports book. It is also too brightly lit, and totally lacks atmosphere. However at 63 tables large, and with two separate areas, for cash games or tournaments, it is the biggest card room in Vegas. It just needs to be a little less clinical.
Card Room Staff (8/10)
Not as good as Bellagio, but very efficient and generally friendly. Although a new room at the time of writing, this was also very well run by the young girl at the podium, and tables were quickly filled once spaces were available.
Waiting Staff (4/5)
Maybe I got them on a bad day, but not the friendliest bunch I’ve ever seen apart from Laura, nor the most frequent of servers again apart from Laura, again maybe just not enough staff on duty, or perhaps the location is too far from the nearest bar area which is more likely the problem.
Level of Play (1/10) [10 being good]
I played mainly $1/$2 with a bit of $2/$5 NL here, and the table was pretty loose, and twice there were huge misreads of players own hands that resulted in $800+ pots being won on $2/$5!!, one of which was a call of a busted flush bluff of $500 into a $300 pot, by a player with 4th pair (73o in the hole) who thought he had a straight. Also a couple of solid players as well, definitely stronger than Bellagio. However conversely on $1/$2 I also had the (mis)fortune to stumble into the only game running on a Saturday morning, and kicked of with three straight $600+ pots, these guys are wild, the blinds bare no relation to the game at all!
Tournament Selection (6/10)
Two decent daily tournaments at good times of the day, although lets have a freezeout guys! The payouts are the best in Vegas, $15 out of $130 at lunchtime, and $20 form $220 at 7pm, however any win over $600 will require a US tax form and subsequent hassle, so maybe the downside isn't worth the hassle. They were also very poor at table balancing once the tournament started to collapse, with at one point having to stop the game as the dealer was insistent that he should deal even although our table was 6, and the other was 9, when down to 15 players. If they would pick up the running of the tournament once in progress, and forget the tax for non-US citizens, then these daily tourneys will be the only ones to play in Vegas.
Cash Game Selection (5/5)
There was plenty of tables in the room, although I visited midweek, I imagine at the weekend this room will be buzzing, and with even more space than Bellagio, it’s more relaxing in that way, although just doesn’t have the atmosphere.
Total: 32/50
A very good try to unseat the king of Vegas poker rooms, the Bellagio, but lets have a little less bright lighting, some better cocktail service, and some freezeouts and it may well challenge for the crown! Remember as well that this is newly opened, so there’s still plenty of time.
